Generally, big cities in Indonesia have already a connection to the water supply company, PDAM. In some regions, they often use the groundwater under the house or nearby as a water supply.

Before purchasing or renting a home, it is recommended to check the water pressure and have the water analyzed by a laboratory.

Connecting to PDAM

  • Fill out the registration form at the nearest PDAM office
  • Proof of identity
  • Pay a registration fee
  • Pay the new connection fee
  • Payment can be done at the nearest PDAM office service unit
  • It takes approximately seven working days to be connected.

The PDAM will give the person a connection number (Nomor sambungan), which is then used to pay water bills. It takes approximately seven working days to be connected.

Cutting Off PDAM

Cutting off the water supply from PDAM takes approximately three days. To get disconnected, take the following documents to the local PDAM office:

  • Proof of identity
  • The PDAM connection number

Bill and Payment

Bill can be received by text message or telephone

  • To receive PDAM bills send the following text message to 3477: PDAMDPS(space)TI(space) and the 12 digit connection number
  • Tel: (0361) 20 274

Bills must be paid between the 5th and 20th of the following month and can be paid in the following ways:

  • At a post office (Pos Indonesia)
  • BNI (standing order)
  • At a Bank Pembangunan Daerah (BPD) ATM/cash dispenser
  • At a PDAM office (late payments only)
  • Open: Monday to Thursday 09:00-13.00, Friday 08:00-12:00

Using a Groundwater

To obtain groundwater for household use, it is necessary to bore a hole (approximately 20m deep) and install a water pump to bring the water into a tank usually situated on the roof of the property. However, the water is almost always polluted, and there are few possibilities for purifying the water. Also, there are risks of pollution from badly constructed septic tanks, often situated a short distance from the groundwater pump itself.

If groundwater is used, a water treatment system can be rented or purchased.
