Nestled on Bali’s southern Bukit Peninsula near Kutuh Village, Pandawa Beach (Pantai Pandawa) is a one-of-a-kind coastal gem. This curved beach stretches about 800 meters of fine white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water, hemmed in by dramatic limestone cliffs. Once a hidden “secret” cove, Pandawa is now easily reached via a scenic road carved directly through the cliffs. Visitors praise it as a “stunning white sand beach” with gentle waves, ideal for families and beach lovers. Pandawa’s inviting surf and calm shallows make swimming and relaxing here especially enjoyable, and the long shoreline means it rarely feels overcrowded.

Getting There & Entry Fees

Pandawa Beach lies about 8 km south of Nusa Dua and 20 minutes by car from Ngurah Rai Airport. The main access is via Jalan Pantai Pandawa, a newly cut road flanked by towering limestone cliffs and giant statues (see below). There is ample parking right by the beach. Entry is modest, only IDR 15,000 per adult (around USD $1) and IDR 10,000 for children. Parking costs about IDR 2,000 for scooters and IDR 5,000 for cars. Note that ride-hailing drivers (Grab/Gojek) can drop you off at the Pandawa entrance, but pickup is not allowed inside the beach gates, you’ll need to walk outside (~500 m) to meet your driver.

Beach Facilities & Activities

Pandawa Beach offers excellent amenities along its length. There are toilets, showers, and covered warungs/cafés for meals, as well as rows of sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. Beach gear is also available. 2-person kayaks are popular (about IDR 50,000 per kayak). The water here is generally calm and safe for swimming, with a mix of soft sand and smooth rock bottom. Although it’s not a premier surf break, Pandawa can be surfed on smaller swells. Adventurous visitors also paraglide and surf at nearby Timbis and Green Bowl beaches. Overall, as one local guide notes, “if you like white sand and blue sea… you’ll love Pandawa Beach.”

On the western side of Pandawa (near the entrance), a cluster of shops and beach equipment rentals is found. Further east toward Oka Warung, the vibe becomes quieter, a great spot to escape the crowd. If you prefer a more private experience, the ticket also includes access to two neighboring beaches: Timbis Beach (a long, surf-friendly stretch) and Batu Barak Beach (a small cove backed by cliffs). Swimming is excellent in all these areas when currents are low, and lifeguards are on duty near the main beach.

Cultural Highlights and Scenery

A defining feature of Pandawa Beach is its dramatic cliff carvings. The entrance road is adorned with six enormous statues from the Hindu Mahabharata: the five Pandawa brothers (Pandavas) and their mother, Dewi Kunti. These hand-carved figures (and one empty arch meant for another character) tower above the roadway, making the drive a unique photo opportunity. As one blogger puts it, these sculptures are “the best manmade limestone features in Bali”. At the very top of the cliffs, a big red-and-yellow sign greets you with “Pantai Pandawa, Desa Kutuh, Kuta Selatan, Badung Bali”. A popular spot for vacation selfies.

After entering, there’s a fork: to the east are simpler local warungs and cheap sunbeds, to the west are more upscale cafes (like Pandawa Breeze and Roosterfish Beach Club) and additional equipment rentals. The entire setting, white sands sweeping under the azure ocean framed by green cliffs, makes for one of Bali’s most photogenic beaches.

Visitor Tips & Quick Facts

  • Best Time to Visit: Early mornings or weekday mornings are best to enjoy Pandawa’s beauty before larger tour groups arrive. The beach is busiest from late morning to mid-afternoon.

  • Entry Fee & Hours: Adult ticket IDR 15,000; children IDR 10,000. Open daily from early morning until after sunset.

  • Transportation: Scooter or private car is easiest. Grab/Gojek drop-off only (no pickup inside) you must meet drivers outside the gate. Taxis and shuttles commonly stop here.

  • Parking: IDR 2,000 (scooter) or 5,000 (car). There are large lots near the beach.

  • Facilities: Public toilets, freshwater showers, changing stalls. Many beach warungs sell food, drinks, and snacks. Chairs/umbrellas rent for ~IDR 50,000/pair.

  • Activities: Swimming and sunbathing are excellent on the gentle sandy beach. You can also rent a 2-person kayak (~IDR 50k) to paddle along the shoreline. Local vendors offer surf lessons and bodyboarding for moderate waves.

  • Other Beaches: Your ticket grants access to neighboring Timbis and Batu Barak beaches. Both are worth a visit, Timbis is long and uncrowded for surfers, while Batu Barak is a tiny cove ideal for kids.

  • Cleanliness: Pandawa is generally clean thanks to efforts by locals and vendors. Heading east (toward Oka Warung) usually finds fewer stray dogs and trash.

  • Weather: Bali’s dry season (April–September) sees calm seas and sunny days; rainy season (Oct–Mar) can have brief downpours but often still plenty of sun.
